I could take the screws out with my fingers…

I was up on the roof of a 40-year-old riding arena the other day, doing a leak assessment. Pretty normal job—or so I thought. What I found up there was wild.

Whoever installed this roof way back when… they didn’t pre-drill the metal, they didn’t snap lines, and the screw lines were all over the place—like someone was throwing darts blindfolded. Not only were they crooked, but a bunch of the screws weren’t even hitting wood. I’m talking full-on misses.
In fact, I could literally take some of the screws out with my fingers—and when I looked through the holes? Nothing behind them. They knew they missed too, because in a few spots, they just tossed a second screw in right next to the first one. Kind of wild.

So yeah—when someone says “they don’t build them like they used to”—I kind of agree… we build them a lot better now. If you’ve got a leaking roof—especially on an older building—this could be exactly what’s going on.
Here’s what we’re offering for this one:
-A temporary fix with silicone—no screws—which might last a year, maybe five.
-Or, the better fix: adding backing inside and properly securing new screws so they actually bite into wood and stop the leaks.
We filmed what we found, and if you want to see it for yourself, you can click here to check out the video.
If you’ve got a leaky roof or want a pro to check it out, hit us up and we’ll come take a look.
