Two Parts of Your Building You Must Maintain

If you’ve got an older outbuilding—or a few of them—there are two key areas you’ll want to pay attention to: the foundation and the roof.
Check the Foundation
Start at the bottom. Is it solid? Is it a proper foundation, or are there old wooden posts buried in the ground that are starting to rot? Maybe it’s a poured foundation with cracks, or even an old rock base. Whatever the case, take a close look. A weak or failing foundation is one of the most common sources of trouble we see in aging structures.
Check the Roof
Then, look up. How’s the roof holding up? Any leaks? Missing shingles? Water coming in through the roof causes just as much damage. Moisture from above can rot framing, damage insulation, and lead to mold or interior rot that’s costly to fix later.

In our experience, most problems with older outbuildings come down to these two things: a compromised roof or a compromised foundation.
The good news? Maintaining your buildings roof and foundation will protect everything in between. A little maintenance goes a long way when it comes to extending the life of these buildings.
Not sure what shape yours are in? We’re happy to take a look and give you a plan to get them back in shape.
